Stephen A. Hansen

Getting Online for Human Rights: Frequently Asked
Questions and Answers About Using the Internet in Human
Rights Work
This is the first in the AAAS Science and Human Rights
Program's resource series on the application of information
technology for human rights. Getting Online for Human
Rights addresses questions on how to apply Internet
technology to human rights research, such as search engine
strategies and webbots, accessing materials on the Web
with only email, Internet security issues, and
communications (electronic conferences, email, listservs,
newsgroups, etc.). It also offers suggestions on dealing with
and protecting the integrity of Internet-based human rights
information. Aimed at reaching as wide an audience as
possible, it assumes only a very basic knowledge of the
Internet on the part of the reader.
In addition to the full text of the printed version, the Web
version offers some additional features which include
automatic online translation from English into French,
Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese.
